You can't use any of the root servers for DNS lookup, as they only provide top level info.
You really need an DNS server that can perform (recursive) lookups for you.
you could try 2001:7b8:312:0:208:74ff:fed0:edca (server2.ipv6.rharmsen.nl) as a DNS server,
this one is available through IPv6 and can perform lookups.
After this you could try to lookup http://ipv6.rharmsen.nl/ and see if you really are browsing IPv6 (note... it also has IPv4)
you could also try http://[2001:7b8:312:0:208:74ff:fed0:edca] to really only browse IPv6.
Good luck
Robin

It's quite possibly the way the subnet is set up. It's a dual-protocol
subnet, with IPv4 addresses dished out by DHCP and IPv6 addresses via
autoconfig.
However, I only have IPv4 DNS servers. I was assuming that the phone
might behave like Windoze does in this circumstance - a IPv4 DNS lookup
that returns an AAAA record will cause the IE to use IPv6 instead of IPv4.
Setting the phone's IPv6 DNS settings to "well known" produces the same
result (i.e., an IPv4 connection), and manually setting an IPv6 DNS to
2001:503:a83e::2:30 (a.gtld-servers.net) didn't help either.
Do I need to get rid of IPv4 on the subnet for this to work? Or can I
disable v4 on the phone somehow?
My phone is an N95 running 12.0.013.
many thanks,
alec
